The US National Team coaches Dan Chuang, David Turgeon, Barbara Brand and Huy Nguyen conducted a National Poomsae Seminar at TaeKwon Kids this past weekend. Joining the coaches, current and former US National team members used the seminar and the TaeKwon Kids facilities as a training event leading up to the upcoming 10th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Lima, Peru on September 29th until Oct 2nd.
Besides the past weekend's seminar, other poomsae training events will be held across the country as a way of sharing the latest training methods and poomsae knowledge to other USAT members, interested in furthering their poomsae skills. 100% of the proceeds from any USAT sanctioned poomsae seminars go directly to help the US National Poomsae Team, which is largely self-funded.
Generation TKD coaches Andrew Moon and Joey Abcede, athletes Sydney Moon and Jasmine Montano attended the 2 day seminar, and sacrificed their weekend to begin their Road to States and National Championships in 2017. It was a chance for them to work closely with the national team members, and help further their aspirations to be the best representatives for Generation TKD. Mr. Moon and Mr. Abcede especially stood proud and tall when one of their own athletes was called up front to do a demo for the entire class. To think Generation TKD was recognized as a poomsae school, even for just a weekend, was quite a step away from what GT is known for -- sparring.
As for Master Chino's aspiration for Generation TKD students, his wish is for his students to have the option to know and learn poomsae and sparring. His offer is for his students to be open to all that the art of TKD has to offer.
